New vs. Used iPhones
Just look at that name: iPhone XS. It just sounds good; it’s a cool name.
Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the iPhone 11 Pro Max—come on, really Apple? Couldn’t you think of a shorter name?
This article isn’t going to just be about names, but it’s important to like the name of your phone. And the way it feels, works, looks, etc… I think you get the point. And here’s the thing: I really like the unlocked iPhone XS, and I think in many ways it’s a better phone than the newer iPhone 11 Pro.
When buying an unlocked iPhone XS, remember to check if the model you’re buying is compatible with your carrier! There’s always a list of compatible carriers next to the product image :)
So many people need to have the newest iPhone just for show, but what if I told you that the newest iPhone isn’t always the best. Take, for example, the iPhone 11 Pro. It’s a slightly more powerful device than the unlocked iPhone XS. It has better cameras and better battery life, too. But it’s also thicker, doesn’t feel as good in the hand, and is generally uglier (because of the weird camera array, in my opinion). The iPhone XS is sleek, sexy, and shiny; the size is just right and it feels really premium. But the iPhone 11 Pro doesn’t feel nearly as good.
Controversial Opinions About the iPhone 11 Pro
Apple put in a bigger battery, and had to make the phone thicker as a result. And in addition to this, Apple decided to scrap the XS’ smooth surface for a rough matte finish. The result is a phone that feels less premium. To me, it feels strange. Eh, maybe matte just isn’t my thing. You don’t have to look far to find people who like the iPhone 11 Pro, though. Just take a walk in New York City and you’ll see a ton of them everywhere.
Sure, the 11 Pro garners some criticism from me here, but if you dig the crazy good triple camera and matte finish, you may really like it, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Check out our refurbished iPhone 11 Pro deals!

Why the Unlocked iPhone XS Takes the Cake
But let’s get back to the unlocked iPhone XS. Sure, its camera isn’t as good as the one in the iPhone 11 Pro, but I don’t really care. I love how the iPhone XS feels in my hand. It has an identical external construction as the iPhone X that launched a year before it, but that’s a good thing (I’m not going to take this opportunity to further praise the build of the unlocked iPhone XS, I think I’ve done that enough already).
And aside from all these factors that already make the XS an awesome phone, it’s the perfect phone to buy unlocked for traveling because of its compact size, awesome camera for capturing lit vaca moments, and affordable price (if you buy it used & refurbished).
So, if you want a fresh new(ish) iPhone, you should consider trying out the unlocked iPhone XS or unlocked iPhone XS Max. The Max, as you may already know, is the slightly bigger brother of the XS. It’s also slightly more expensive, but dude, if you watch a lot of videos/movies or play a lot of video games on your phone, that extra screen really comes in handy. It’s a totally different experience, although you do sacrifice a little in terms of ergonomics because your phone will become slightly harder to use one-handed.
