Where are the headphones?

Learn about how headphones can reduce e-waste

Why don’t I see headphones in my package?

The short answer: it’s a tangible way to reduce e-waste.

What is e-waste?

Electronic waste, or e-waste, refers to all electronic products that have been thrown away or abandoned without being properly recycled. Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are just some examples of everyday electronics that end up as e-waste in landfills.

E-waste is also notorious for harboring toxic materials (like mercury, lead and beryllium) that can cause serious damage to the environment, wildlife and humans. It makes up just 2% of waste but 70% of toxic waste, so in other words, it’s super bad for the environment.

What do headphones have to do with e-waste?

Lots of us already have one, two, three (or more) headphones. And when it comes to our day-to-day, we’re all just using one pair for, well, everything. Instead of adding to a growing pile of potential e-waste, Back Market makes a conscious effort to not include headphones.

It’s a small but significant step in reducing e-waste and redefining our relationship with technology. Just think: we can keep our devices for longer rather than buying into the hype of whatever’s new on the market; we can repair older hardware and reincarnate them for another purpose; and we can recycle devices that are truly at the end of their nine lives.🌿

💚 Reduce, reuse, refurbish and recycle are impactful ways to extend the life cycle of tech and electronics. So at Back Market, you could say we’re trying to revolutionize the way we consume tech and reduce e-waste one headphone at a time.
