When my macbook pro of 9 years suffered a dead motherboard, I took it hard. It had been a reliable workhorse for me for its entire life and I used it more than my newer desktop. I considered tracking down the parts and attempting to fix it myself, but was very nervous given the difficulty and my inexperience with modifying apple hardware. On a whim, I wondered whether I could find a refurbished copy of the exact same model and what the cost would be. I was pleseantly surprised to find the exact same model with the exact same features on this marketplace, and to find that it was the same cost as a replacement motherboard and battery (which I also needed)-- all without having to attempt the repair myself. Six weeks in and I have had no issues; the macbook was in better condition than i hooed for (far better than a hypothetical repair by me would have been given all the other wear and tear on my previous laptop).
