As the great George W. Bush once opined, "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." Alas, I have been fooled by BackMarket once again. Despite knowing of and having personally experienced their persistent and pervasive issue of sending out carrier-locked or brute-force "unlocked" phones marketed as unlocked, I purchased a Pixel 5 from them in the hopes that I wouldn't encounter this problem yet again. I was wrong; I did. When I attempted to set-up an eSim on the phone during initial set-up, I was directed to scan a QR code from Verizon. I do not use Verizon as my service provider, nor do I plan on switching to them. The only reason this message was prompted is because the phone is clearly a Verizon-specific Pixel 5, not an unlocked phone as advertised. Shame on you, you incompetent, money-grubbing dinguses.
