On Back Market, every device has been checked and restored by experts.
Back Market has created a transparent grading system that takes into account both the appearance and technical condition of our renewed devices. "Technical condition" refers to the durability one can expect from an item given its refurbisher’s operations and historical quality data. Every device is guaranteed to be 100% functional regardless of its grade: Fair, Good, or Excellent.
Signs of wear. The body may have a few visible scratches and dents that do not affect performance. For items with screens, the screen may have light scratches, invisible when the screen is on.
Good. Durability scores are average, and still correspond with the quality levels required by our Quality Charter.
To obtain the Back Label and sell on our platform, each new refurbisher answers a rigorous questionnaire on their operations and quality procedures and are asked to give proof that they're doing what they say.
On average, only 1 out of 3 sellers who want to join Back Market get approved.
To start with, we ask our hundreds of thousands of customers to give us detailed feedback.
In addition, our own in-house experts do anonymous orders every week to personally verify the quality of our refurbishers' items.
If a refurbisher's quality score goes down they are immediately placed on probation and our own customer service kicks in to take charge.
Our algorithm goes through all the available inventory to find the best value offer in terms of quality and price for each SKU, based on each refurbisher's quality score.
They closely monitor customer complaints, and intervene to resolve disputes when necessary.
The perks we consider obvious:
Spurred into action by the megatons of e-waste (electronic waste) we produce each year thanks to our collective obsession with new tech, Back Market is challenging people to rethink their tech consumption.
Just because we're passionate about what we believe in doesn't mean we have to be Debbie Downers. We remind people to care while also caring about inclusiveness and the shared humanity that binds us all together. So, yes, dumb jokes and lots of sincerity.
Our team continues to grow. We now have more than 600 sets of eyeballs, hands, and feet working in the service of our mission.
We hope we can make it easier for more folks to take that first step for the greater good. Reuse! Reduce! And as a last resort, Recycle!
