Almost everybody needs a good laptop. Whether you’re a student or full-time worker, there’s a good chance you either need a laptop for your job or school. You’ll need to spend a little more money if you want to buy somebody a good Windows laptop for Christmas, probably at least $500. When it comes to Windows laptops, you’ll also want to stick to that same general rule of 3 years old or newer, but you’ll also want to pay attention to the specs of the laptop. If you’re buying a laptop for just regular everyday use, you’ll want it to have a Core i5 or i7 processor, at least 8GB of RAM, and at least 200GB of SSD storage. If you want to buy somebody a laptop for Christmas, it’s important to note that a MacBook will probably be your most expensive option. But just because it’s the most expensive doesn’t mean that it won’t be worth it. I’m actually writing this on a 2014 MacBook Air that still runs great, but would suggest getting a newer model if you want to do more complex tasks such as video production or working with large data sets in Excel. Similar rules apply as for Windows laptops: go for a device with a Core i5 or i7 and at least 8GB of RAM.
