iPhone 8 Plus vs iPhone X

The iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X were two of Apple's most popular smartphones at the end of 2017. The iPhone 8 Plus was released in September 2017, while the iPhone X was released more recently in November 2017. Let's take a look at how these two iPhones compare.
 

Camera

You won't find much difference between these 2 cameras. The iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X both have 2 rear 12MP wide and telephoto lenses. They offer the same camera features as well such as 2x optical zoom and Portrait Mode. However, the iPhone X has a slight advantage in photo detail and sharpness due to a faster aperture (f/2.4 compared to f/2.8 on the iPhone 8 Plus) and dual optical image stabilization. The difference is subtle, so you likely won't notice much if you're comparing two photos side by side.

Battery

The battery capacity on both phones is also very similar; 2675 mAh for the iPhone 8 Plus and 2716 mAh for the iPhone X. Again, the iPhone X has a small advantage, but probably not noticeable for the average user.

Display

Screen display size and resolution is where you'll start to notice more of a difference between the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution while the iPhone X has a larger 5.8-inch screen with a 2436 x 1125 px resolution. The iPhone X also gives you more screen real estate with an edge to edge OLED display for higher contrast and HDR support, compared to iPhone 8's more outdated LCD Retina display.

Storage

Both the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X offer internal storage options of 64 and 256 GB. We'd like to see a middle-ground option of 128 GB for either model, but Apple at least covered the low and high ends of storage needs.

Processor

Both phones come equipped with Apple's A11 Bionic processor chip, 3GB RAM and run on Apple's latest operating system iOS 11 or higher, so both models will perform very similarly. However, it is worth noting that the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X will both no longer be supported by Apple iOS updates sometime between 2023 and 2024 since Apple usually deems iPhone models obsolete 7 years after their initial release. 

Overall, both the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are very similar phones and you're not likely going to notice a huge difference between them, so you're safe to buy either one. We give a slight edge to the iPhone X, however, since its display screen delivers much better quality on a bigger phone.
