Xbox One console deals in 2023: what to expect

The Xbox One was released in 2013 at the premium console price point of $499 and that price stayed consistent until the Xbox Series X was released in 2020. Now, the Xbox Series X is still Microsoft's newest console with a $499 list price, but what deals can you expect on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

Last year, TechRadar reported a few Xbox deals that could save customers up to $70 off, but they were limited to Xbox Series S consoles and bundles, Xbox games and various accessory sales. This year, we expect to see similar trends, where you'll find the biggest discounts on the older Xbox One and Xbox Series S consoles and bundle deals on the newer Xbox Series X where you can get a game, accessory or Xbox Game Pass with your console purchase.

For example, right now you can find the Xbox Series X for $489.99 ($10 off) at the Microsoft store or bundle the console with a game like Diablo IV or Forza Horizon 5 for the exact same price. Alternatively, we expect you'll find many retailers with Xbox Series S bundles starting around $249.99, which will save you about $50 plus the cost of an accessory or 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Offers will vary depending on the retailer.

While these Xbox prices will ultimately save you money, it's worth considering buying from trusted refurbished sites like Back Market for similar or better Xbox discounts. That's an additional $50 savings or more compared to the other discounts you'll find at popular retailers.

Unfortunately, the Xbox Series X does not have a competitive refurbished discount at this time, but if you can wait, it will be worth checking again in 2024 for sales closer to $400.

Is Black Friday the best time to buy an Xbox?

Yes and no. In general, you're going to find lower Xbox prices on average among the top retailers during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. However, you probably won't find any huge discounts for a standalone Xbox console, without bundling it with a game, accessory and Xbox Game Pass.

You can definitely take advantage of these Xbox bundle deals during the Holiday season, especially if you had already planned on buying a specific game or need the Game Pass.

However, as we mentioned above, the best prices aren't exclusive to these Holiday sales events. Back Market has discounts on gaming consoles all year around, and you can usually find the lowest prices on older Xbox One X and Xbox One S models, which both come with a full 1-year warranty.

Xbox controllers are currently $5 off at the Microsoft store for $54.99. However last year, we saw Xbox prices drop to around $39 or $20-25 off the normal list price. We'll probably see similar discounts this year.

If you don't want to stress waiting in lines or spending hours researching the best Black Friday deals, then you can also consider buying a refurbished Xbox controller. The best deal you can find on a controller that's still compatible with the newer Xbox Series S or Series X is $35 for an Xbox One controller.

Are Xbox One deals still worth it in 2023?

Most gamers will probably tell you no and that you need to have the Series S or Series X to properly game online. This might be true for more serious gamers who need access to the newest catalog of Xbox games, but there are only a handful of games exclusive to the Series X/S at this time.

If you're a more casual gamer, you'll have access to almost all of Microsoft's Xbox games through the Xbox One. Keep in mind that you may not have access to more and more games as they become exclusive to the Series X/S.

At the end of the day, your decision might come down to price. The Xbox One S might be worth it to you to get the best bang for your buck and enjoy the Xbox experience under $200. However, for now the Xbox One X isn't worth it because pricing is too similar to the Xbox Series S price, around $250. In my opinion, the best Xbox deals in 2023 come down to the Xbox One S or the Xbox Series S - you just have to decide which one is a better option for you as a gamer.
