iPhone 7 vs iPhone XR Comparison

iPhone 7 vs iPhone XR: can the Apple classics still compete today?

The iPhone 7 and the iPhone XR are two classic iPhones which are still sought after in today’s refurbished market. The iPhone 7 was released in 2016, while the iPhone XR was released in 2018, making it slightly more recent in comparison.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone XR: camera quality

When it comes to camera quality, both phones have a similar setup with a single 12 MP camera lens and 7 MP selfie camera too. However, when it comes to display size and resolution, the XR has a 6.1 inch display with 828 x 1792 px resolution compared to 4.7 inches and 750 x 1334 px for the iPhone 7, making the XR a more pleasurable experience for viewing content.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone XR: battery, storage capacity, and features

The battery life of each phone is also different; The XR has a 2942 mAh battery which can last up to 10 hours of web browsing or video streaming while the iPhone 7 has a much smaller 1960 mAh which can last up to only 8 hours of web browsing or video streaming when compared. In terms of RAM capacity, storage capacity and chipset/processor speed, they differ quite a bit from each other. The iPhone 7 offers 2 GB RAM whereas the XR offers 3 GB RAM instead. In terms of storage capacity, the iPhone XR offers the following options 64GB/128GB/256GB while the iPhone 7 provides an option for a smaller capacity (for those who don’t need a lot) that starts from 32GB instead, and skips the 64GB but still provides options for 128GB and 256GB also. Regarding the chipset/processor, the iPhone 7 uses Apple’s A10 Fusion chip with speeds up to 2GHz for processor speed but the XR in comparison operates on a better A12 Bionic chipset so you can expect faster speeds with the XR. Another disadvantage to the iPhone 7 is the operating system as it can only upgrade to  iOS 15.7 whereas the XR iOS can be upgraded to the latest today which is iOS 16.3. Finally when it comes to design and available colors; Both phones offer a variety of colorways but the iPhone 7 colors are more of the classical silver, gold, rose gold type colors, whereas the XR is available in more popping colors such as yellow and blue which is not available on the 7 model. The XR is slightly thicker than its predecessor at 8mm compared to 6mm for the iPhone 7 due its larger battery size as well as having an edge-to-edge LCD display instead of a bezel frame on the iPhone 7. Furthermore, the iPhone 7 uses the old fingerprint recognition software, whereas the XR utilizes the current facial recognition software for unlocking the smartphone. When considering all these factors together, the newer iPhone XR is better than the old iPhone 7 due to the better battery, resolution, iOS, and features which are comparable to the latest iPhones today.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone XR: and the winner is...

The winner here is pretty straightforward in our opinion, if you’re looking for a long-lasting phone, bigger screen display, higher resolution, and modern user-interface that is similar to the latest models today, then the iPhone XR is your best bet. The iPhone 7 is now being left behind in terms of updates, but if you just need a super-cheap smartphone that could be someone’s first phone, then the iPhone 7 is more than capable.
