Should I Get a Refurbished Apple Magic Mouse?

Why buying a Refurbished Apple Mouse is a great idea

Is Buying a Refurbished Magic Mouse a Good Idea?

Let’s face it: Apple products are cool, but expensive. The Apple Magic Mouse is no exception to this rule. It’s a really sleek mouse that’s great to use with a MacBook, iMac, and Mac Mini, but maybe you don’t want to spend your money on a new model. Although they’re sleek, new Apple products are overpriced: it’s a fact. But thankfully, there’s a solution: buying a used Apple Magic Mouse that has been refurbished by the good folks at Back Market :D

What Makes the Refurbished Apple Magic Mouse Special?

Unlike other mice, the Apple Magic Mouse has gesture controls. What does this mean? Similar to other Apple devices, you can easily navigate the web by making certain gestures with your fingers on the surface of the mouse.

So if you want to go back to your previous window—for example—you can do a two-finger swipe without needing to click the “back” button in the left-hand corner of your browser. But to be honest, this is not the best way to use the gesture-based controls, at least not in my opinion.

The nicest feature of a used Apple Magic Mouse—in my opinion—is the ability to scroll up and down a page without the need for a scroll wheel. That’s right, you can just swipe your finger up and down the surface of this mouse and it will input that as scrolling.

Refurbished Apple Magic Mouse VS Magic Mouse 2

The only real difference between the original Magic Mouse and the Magic Mouse 2 is the fact that the original takes 2 AA batteries and the newer model has a rechargeable battery inside—and you can directly plug up the mouse to charge it as opposed to having to take out the batteries.

This sounds super convenient, until you realize that you can’t use the mouse while you’re actually charging it since the charging port is on the bottom of the device :( This isn’t a big problem if you have a MacBook that gives you the choice of using the built-in touchpad, but if your work device is an iMac and the Magic Mouse 2 is your only method of on-screen navigation and you realize when you get to work in the morning that your battery is completely drained, then this may be problematic—unless you’re good at religiously charging your device at regular intervals. The built-in battery should last you a full month, so if you remember to charge your refurbished Magic Mouse 2 every other week, you shouldn’t need to worry about it running out of juice at an inconvenient time :)
